Between worlds

Colour and Elements

Colour and Elements

I entered the world between cultures — to a Finnish mother and a Kashimiri father, born in England and later living across the globe - landing now in Denmark and Italy.

From a young age, I observed the contrasts between traditions, languages, temperaments, and beliefs. These didn’t confuse me — they intrigued me.

I learned to be at home in contradiction, to listen for what connects us beneath the surface. My life, like my art, is layered, shifting, and filled with stories — from Europe to Asia, from silence to sound, from belonging to alienation...and then circling back again.

At the heart of my work, I journey through shapes and colour, painting the richness of a mixed DNA—a homage to the past, present, and future.

Colour is not just something I use — it’s something I feel. It comes from memories; Summer heat of a city, Nordic lights on a snow-covered forest, the pinks and purples of bruised emotions, the green of renewal.

Nature and Human energy are my greatest collaborators. I don’t copy them— I channel them. Each work is alive in its own way, holding a temperature, a rhythm, and a pulse.

Why ‘Spiraliens’?

My paintings reflect inner and outer landscapes.

I work across three bodies of work:

  • Circles of belonging -  circular works exploring connection and community
  • The Natural World  - inspired by Nature and its quiet power
  • Spiralien Beings - tribal, surreal, and energetic beings that speak without words.

I work with layers on paper, or canvas -  experimenting with tones, pigments, acrylics, oils, charcoal or other mediums.

Why ‘Spiraliens’?

Why ‘Spiraliens’?

The name Spiraliens is a meeting point between the spiral — an ancient symbol of growth, energy, and movement — and the word “alien,” which speaks to the feeling of being foreign, outside, and in search of belonging.

We are all spiraliens in some way — circling around each other, evolving and searching for connection.

The spiral reflects our natural state of becoming. The alien captures the shared human experience of displacement and return.

My logo, inspired by the Mayan  ‘Hunab Ku’, the Galactic Butterfly, carries this energy at its heart. It symbolizes unity in diversity, movement in stillness, and the beautiful paradox of being many things at once. Just like my work. Just like me. Just like all of us.

’Spirits of Son Doong’ - was inspired by my 5 day trekking trip to the largest cave in the world in Vietnam. Watch the video.
